Coral Slime Mould [Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa]

Found near Kingswear in Devon. [26/7/2009]

Devil's Fingers [Clathrus archeri] [6/10/2013] Dartmoor

After an inspiring fungi foray led by an expert in the field, we headed out to try to find some more new species. We were on our way back and almost missed this remarkable specimen, in spite of it being just off the path. It was situated on a flat area of grassland among overhanging bracken. This was probably a relatively fresh specimen. The illustrations and images we have seen of this species look markedly different. The five red fingers are usually partially covered in a black sticky slime. Sadly when we returned to the same location a week later it had disappeared.
